Welcome to the Official Blog for Raleigh India 12J September - December 2012.

Sunday 9 October 2011

Our venturers are here!

Well after weeks of training and anticipation our venturers have finally arrived, and boy are we pleased to meet them!
We picked up a surprisingly perky group this morning at Bangalore Airport and treated them to their first taste of India in the form of a delicious dosa and, of course, a cup of chai.
Making sure we've got everyone!
A hearty Indian breakfast

After a four hour bus drive, we were finally at Fieldbase and greeted by some very excited PMs. They gave the venturers a tour of Fieldbase and took the venturers to their dorms so they could get their mosi nets up and sleeping bags out.
Arriving at Fieldbase
Off to unpack and find their beds

Mark then gave them a welcome chat and an overview of the projects that they would be working on during their time in India.
Finding out about their projects

All the PMs already know quite a lot already about the projects and after going on their PPVs have a good idea of what to expect. It was really wonderful to hear all the excited gasps and see all the smiles of the venturers as Mark gave them a quick overview of Expedition. After two weeks of training, all of the PMs felt a spark of excitment that expedition is very much alive and all around them!
Just before the venturers sat down for lunch, Helen put them into their India groups that they’ll be training with over the next five days. These are:
India 1
Ed, Maggi and Jon: Amelia, Lavinia, Lukas, Anna, Megan, Albertine, Jamie, Julie, Suthakar
India 2
Kath and Sian: Roz, Zoe, Leticia, Esmee, Stewart, Sterre, Lizzie, Alex, Shruti
India 3
Jon and Charlie: Lizzie, Jenni, Kate, Jake, Gemma, Steph, Valerie, Dan, Shafeeque
India 4
Andy and Hannah: Lucy, Hannah, Matt, Anne, Claire, Harriet, Will, Firose
India 5
Rachel, Anthony and Kim: Lucy, Aaron, Robyn, Lisa, Veerle, Maya, Victoria, Victor

One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be a busy next five days. Tomorrow morning everyone is leaving in their India groups for three days of trek training. The venturers will be learning camp craft, navigation skills, how to cook on Trangiias and doing their swim test. It’s going to be a fantastic few days and I can’t wait to update the blog with everything they’ve been up to!

So, after an afternoon of name games, admin and packing for trek, it was an early night for everyone. We’ve all got a 5am start tomorrow, the perfect opportunity for our venturers to have their first taste of our famous energy bombs!
A few games before lunch
The all important 'three bowls'
Lots of curry!
A home from home!

Hope you're having fun so far. Saw the photos and read up on what you've done so far. Sounds like you're having a great time. And the facilities in your camp look amazing! Tried doing that 'manoeuvre' I told you about earlier, didn't quite work. Apart from that, not much news. Will definitely try and send you a care package as soon as possible. Love you, Laura xx
