A Very Special Birthday Message!

Today is special for two reasons: first of all, it is Independence Day in India, meaning that celebrations have been going on all over this vast land; and, second, it's Alice's mum's birthday. Alice, one of our VMs, is currently working hard in the village of Hagranahalli and sends the following message...

"Happy Birthday Mum! I hope you're having a great day! I look forward to seeing you in Kerala in a few weeks' time! Lots of love, Alice xx"

Alice and one of the masons, hard at work.

I might recommend to you, Mrs Alice's mum, that you bring her a selection of the finest chocolate biscuits or other confectionery that you can lay your hands on, because she's been a fantastic VM for us here at Raleigh and will have earned her dose of sugary treats several times over by the time you see her. May I also take the opportunity to wish you a happy birthday too!

Hi Nicky, hope you are doing fine and there is not too much rain - looking at the BBC forecast it seems to be quite wet where you are ! We went out on Adrian's boat this evening and had dinner at Nolu's...all is well although not much going on....anyway must go to bed - here is Mummy ! Lots of love/ daddy
Hi Nico-chan, a big HI from Abu Dhabi! We are all doing fine but city is quiet during the day because of Ramadan. Nick is surviving the heat, too! We are off to Dubai on Friday and take Nick to Burj Kalifa. Three of us are going back to UK on Saturday but Raffaella is staying behind for a few more days to keep Daddy company. I hope your project is going well. I am sure my cards started to arrive to the Fieldbase by now! Stay safe and enjoy! Lots of love from Daddy and Mummy xx p.s hiii I miss you come home please! Love RAF x

  2. What a lovely surprise! Thank-you Alice, and thank-you Mr blog-writer for the birthday greetings, which I was thrilled to receive especially knowing they've come from a more remote place than the wilds of the UK! Choc biscuits - hmmm, may need to get eaten before they reach Alice to prevent meltdown, but the dry toast might survive the journey better! With love, Alice's Mum

Hola hijo: Tres semanas ya! Veo que estan trabajando mucho y que ya tienen algunos toilets!! Me alegro.
Ahora, tomate una cervezita esta noche o un chai para celebrar, nosotros haremos lo mismo. En horabuena!! Ya no tienes que preocuparte por nada, disfruta tu estancia en India.

NICO-CHAN! I hope this is the right place to post- I just copied your parents... I can't believe how little I've been able to speak to you since you've been embarking on such life-changing things! I have a feeling you'll come back a changed person, and I can't wait to hear about it all. Just wanted you to know how much I'm thinking of you and missing you. I'm currently at the Edinburgh Fringe doing our play- Phoebe sends her love! You'd be impressed with the number of japanese-inspired plays here... ours included!

I hope you're having the time of your life- don't suppose you'll be making too many trips to Tumeric Gold once you're back. I can't wait to hear about all the new people you're meeting too, I won't let you spare any details.

Keep going, sending you all my love and kisses- be ready for a MAMMOTH catch up when you're home :)

(ps. hope you're not missing your edamame too much- we'll hit wagamamas when you're back)
