Venturing it up

The big moment has come! After 11 host country venturers (HCVs) arrived at Fieldbase yesterday (significantly improving the tunes around here; waking up to “Sunshine of your Love” is priceless), we just got flooded by another 65 venturers arriving from Bangalore airport.
During their five hour bus ride to Fieldbase, they were well taken care of by our project managers; Barney, Chrissi, Emma, Janet, Natalie, and Stephen; who made sure that sufficient amounts of indispensible items - like expedition information leaflets, toilet paper, and calm advice on how to deal with the extraordinary experience of Indian traffic - were available. They also got their batteries recharged with some delicious breakfast dosa and chai.

All the venturers went through our infamous and super effective Raleigh anti-jetlag procedure, kicked off by welcome speeches - delivered by our lovely and über-excited managers Mark, Simon and Petr - emphasising the superiority of Raleigh India over ALL other Raleigh expeditions. EVER. Excellent choice, my dearest venturers! And this was just the beginning: we had
a Fieldbase tour, health and safety training, code of conduct, medical 1-2-1 ‘s, administration and photo sessions in store; of course complemented by energizers and name games.

Thanks for making a mess.
Pete giving an eight minutes presentation.
Hmmmm...
Food it puts me in a good mood, it keeps me goin',
When under strains, ain't nothin worse than hunger pains.
Just before dinner, they had time to hang up their mosi-nets, unpack their sleeping mats, get homey in their dormitories, and then concluded their first exciting day with a session on cultural awareness delivered by Theja and Mark. And FINALLY they will get some of that well-deserved sleep, just to wake up to a sunny morning with temperatures at an enjoyable 25 degrees (jealous much?) and a fun day of hard skills training. Stay tuned for news!
Oh, and we got a special delivery: Richard Jones arrived with the venturers (applause please!). He is our new Fieldbase Medic, holding the fort when the others are out there constructing and trekking.
Doc Jones in fort holding position
P.S.: As managing 76 people is somewhat impossible, we allocated them to “Delta Groups” for the next five days, all taken care of by our PMs. So if you, the highly esteemed reader, would like to pass on a message to one of the venturers, please indicate name and group according to our elaborate scheme (So sorry... Names are not in order; But I can't possibly get to know 76 people in one day.):

Delta 1: Abigail, Chaluva, Christine, Frances, Grant, Isabel, James P., Jules, Kristian, Nicole and Suresh

Delta 2: Alexandra, Beatrice, Caspar, Charlie, Chyna, Jude, Max, Rebecca, Shaveh, and Thejas

Delta 3: Charlotte, Claire, Daniel W., James W., Jan, Katherine, Oliver, Ramesh, Sally, Sophie, and Suraj

Delta 4: Abhishek, Haydn, James H., Joel, Joost, Laura, Mandisa, Marjolein, Patrick, Sofia, Victoria, and William

Delta 5: Aashna, Daniel L., Eline, Flora, Jonathan D., Manjunath, Martha, Shaquille, Stephen, Ursula, and Vishnu

Delta 6: Dominic, Helen, Jonathan C., Natalia, Roonmarijn, Sophia, Thomas, Venetia, Vijay, Wolde, and Yashaswi

Make sure you enjoy Raleigh even though it's shit at times because I really miss it now! Not much has been happening here... The 5 weekers have left so it's really quiet now, Ida and xan have slept together, mark and Harriet are good, but Louis is causing issues... Gaby and rob still getting together and Nathalie is being a bit of a slut again now Stevens gone... Rob fell asleep standing up last night, tall Harriet is getting with the bouncer from petit danois; he's 33. Selja has a job and lives by the police station now- she is the most annoying person in the world.

We miss you soooo much! Were going to georgies chalet this weekend and we WISH we could be there!! Thank you so much for the bracelets, they're so pretty we love them!

Can't believe your all the way in India! How's it going? Hanging out with the turtles. Managed to book mine and Dulcie's flights out to Thailand now. Got given this lil Asia book about everything you can do and where you should go in Thailand when I booked them, so getting a vague idea of where we could visit. Its gonna be freakin awesome!! Although your gonna look even more tanned than usual and we are gonna look see thru. Ahaa Wilty is gonna go even redder too. This is gonna be funny.

Ha sorry i said it to alex so i thought i'd crack it out again for you. How's things dude? Flicked through some of the pics and videos and looks like your having some fun/ interesting experiences out there- can't help being jealous. Couple of the pics have cracked me up too haha Um but yea, life's pretty tame back here atm. Just got back for easter so saw a few people last week which was good, couple of standard langton- carpenters nights. No one can stomach chem anymore since going to uni haha Um yeah apart from that things are pretty quiet- although me, james anna and sarah managed to get tickets for reading which i'm already pumped for. Should be sick. Anyway dude i'll leave you to it- hope your having such a good time out there man, take care

    Hi Hades,

Looks like you're having a good time - no more wussy Chicken Kormas down the local I suspect from now on...
Can you check for us whether all the official photos on the blog site are going to be available on a CD later - I suppose the quality will be better than trying to download off the site directly.
All well here - off to Cyprus on Tuesday for some much needed sun (well if you're swanning (?) around taking some UVs, why can't we?). Stay well.

Hi Ollie Happy Easter! Hope you are happy and healthy!
We went to Aggie and Mikes last night which was great-both James and Millie said how much they miss you and can't wait for your return. Not used to not seeing you during the holidays, so it seems strange!
I do hope that your final week is a memorable one. It sounds as though the Loop visited you at Echo 4, so looking forward to seeing the pictures.
Enjoy yourself and so looking forward to seeing you!love Mum xxx
