RALEIGH HALF AND 10K FUN RUN

THE RALEIGH HALF AND 10 K FUN RUN

STARTING POINT CHAMUNDI HILL ON

FRIDAY 7th MAY @ 5.45am

Ok it just keeps getting better here at field base. We have planned a half marathon and a 10k race at the end of expedition. We want to make sure that all participants REALLY deserve their party. Everyone is very excited about this race and although the words "fun" have been used I can tell you that competition is fierce out here in India.

Please rest assured we shall be leaving as soon as it's light to avoid the heat and there will be plenty of water stops along the way from our field base marshalls.  Also every person is running with a buddy.

In the true spirit of Raleigh we are fundraising from this event. You are by now hopefully behind us as a charity and have witnessed all the good work that we do first hand so I will just say that if you would like to make a donation then we would be more than grateful, if not on this occassion then we would like to thank you for all your support to date.

You can donate in the usual way by visiting the Just Giving website.

We have set ourselves a target of  £500 so we will let you know how we get on and we will give you a daily update on how preparation for the race is going and how much we have raised. It is going to be BIG!

    Hi Sweetie
Well what can i say apart from good luck in the 10k and well done, it is hard to think that when you were younger you were constantly trying to get out of doing Phys Ed and always asking for a note to be excused, not that you got one ha ha.
Nan and Gramps are here for the weekend, and Gramps is planning the new dolls house for baby Wilson, although Joe was begging Amanda to ask him if he would still build a fort and she said yes as long as it is pink and has lights!!
The weather has definatly changed this weekend and has been drizzly and quite windy.
Well you are into your final week and i know you will be sad to leave India but i will be so pleased when you are at home so i can give you lots of mummybear cuddles.
Try and let me know approx time of arrival in uk and enjoy the 10k.
    Take Care love you always.

10K - Oh my, can't help but wonder what you will be running in as I can only remember one pair of walking boots and one pair of flip-flops going with you. No surprise to see that you are finding reading material out there, I remember more books than shoes being packed - 10K!. Did you received the blog from Vanessa, (she has been called back for second trials for the University World Games. They will select only three riders from four group trials of 16, so she is very pleased to be through to the second round). I would like you to make contact, in order to let me know what your plans are between leaving Raleigh and returning home in August. I hope you are keeping an eye on to the news coming from Thailand - let me know if you would like me to try and change your flight there to a different destination, as I am more than willing to pay the difference! Well, have a great last week - you will need to place an update on your facebook page, all your friends, especially ex flat mates, are eager to know what you are up to! Keep well, eat plenty! - Love Mum

Update on Charlie 2 today but sadly no photos. Wonder if you were all in downtown Oooty. Yet no email or call from there either. Perhaps you've been too busy writing letters to make up for all the ones lost in the post!

Update: Chris not been well this week and was off sick for couple of days. So having a quiet weekend (no doubt worrying about ManU losing their Premiership title to Chelski but he'll be playing golf with his bosses on Bank Holiday Monday!). Anna is flying a plane this weekend for the first time .. well that's the plan but weather is pretty miserable so might not happen. As for us .. our lives determined by daily RUH hospital visits to see G'dad (who is doing as well as possible), visits from the electrician, builder and plumber plus wading through the daily avalanche of election leaflets as Annunziata Rees-Mogg battles to win this LibDem marginal for the Tories. Gordon seems to have lost the Election for Labour. Anyway we're not letting it get us down and so are off to the Fat Duck on election day 'to live, drink and be merry ....'.

Hope you're having a great time still, enjoying this third phase .. does sound like Charlie 2 has achieved some mightily impressive outcomes.

Looking forward to news on your plans ...
    Take care!

    Hi Paula (Echo 4)
There has been some news overnight that a car bomb has been discovered in Times Square. There has been no major explosion although there are conflicting reports of smaller ones. No one hurt. The people who have the hot dog stands were evacuated to the Marriott Marquis for a few hours - not bad eh?! Anyway the Doubletree and the cookies are still safe.
Your dad will be calling in later when he goes to the match - last home game against Man U.
Good luck for your run - that truly amazes me - this is the girl who broke her leg to get out of PE.

  13. Dear Benn,

Were home and a bit shattered. Left Washington DC in 85F + degrees and arrived Heathrow 50F odd and pouring with rain. Mum had a great time as shown by the two xtra suitcases and golf clubs coming afterwards. It is a great place to visit like London lots to see. I can,t quite remember what i did over 3 weeks ago but the trip went well but much to do in office. Bar Mit Zah was great fun with Browns though we ate far too much. Both H and R have been on phone and both seems well. Saw your B'day wish to R which i bet he never acknowledged. Bank Holiday tomorrow thank goodness as we need day to recover before going back to office. Meant to be playing Golf in comp with Bg J !!. Have read all blogs and seen videos so it has been an active time for all. Your pictures show i am still slightly heavier than you. Gained a few pounds on this trip unfortunately. Grandma with Dee in Tenerife. Will be in touch over travel plans later in week. Take care all seems well here keep healthy and enjoy. Love M and D

Am surprised your name is not down as one of the runners. Saw you win the tug of war. Well done.
Oxford was very beautiful on Saturday in the spring sunshine. I spent some time in Balliol and then at Campion Hall looking at GM Hopkins manuscripts and drawings. Have now got an autographed copy of Simon;s book. Am hoping to drag D to a film this pm once he has finished his latest essay.

This is a great way to end the expedition, I will be rooting for you so make sure you win, PLEASE do it in your flip-flops, that would be amazing.

Do you know that they are now advising against non-essential travel to anywhere in Thailand, not just Bangkok but the whole country. Please please be careful and think very hard about what you are going to do and what I said about staying alive.

I have moved to PR now and it is great, possibly the thing I have enjoyed most so far. Weather is mental - today I got hailed on, rained on, then the sun came out, all before I reached the end of my road.

Have a great last week and make sure you end it with a sweet victory on Fri!

Could you please ask her to let me know that she has received this message and ask her if there is anything else I need to do?

    Message for Louise Carter's Mum,

Roger that, we'll pass this info on to Louise this evening (4/5/10) during the comms check. The Venturers return on Thursday so it's likely she'll reply personally when she gets back to Field Base but it may be that Louise acknowledges your message via the FieldBase team before then.

Not long until they all get back! I'd best get my marigolds on and get scrubbing!

Hello there -- Lisa here. Just seen that you are about to do a 10k run later this week. Funny 'cos last night (or the night before) I dreamed that I was going to do a run... which I know I am not, but glad that you have taken over in reality. Yes, I am very tired so this might be incoherent -- overworked as is usual at this time of the year. Haven't seen Amy at all but maybe I will call her tomorrow and try and have coffee or lunch. Hi Kiki,
I expect tomorrow is the day you'll be back at Fieldbase having had a couple of days R&R. I'm sure you needed it! No photos yet of the 2 groups of Trekkers yet so have been keeping myself involved by viewing previous trekking groups, trying to imagine where you might be and what you might be seeing. Your letter still hasn't arrived and the volcano has been causing more problems so I expect you might be back before your letter! I sent one 3 weeks ago & posted it during the "ash" crisis so expect that may also be caught up in the backlog. Anyway, looking forward to hearing from you if you get the chance & will be monitoring the site for photos of the final get2ge! Mxxxx

  36. Benn,

Spoke to John at Plant Lipids. He has given me his mobile # which i shall pass onto you on next occasion. So plan A is when you are ready to leave Raleigh Int call him and he will tell you best means to get to him. Stay there to chill, see his company and at same time you/he will organise where to go/what to see before returning home. He is best one to advise you and you can suggest pace you wish to go at. Should work out fine. We can call you/txt or email details whichever is best. Election day tomorrow where is your form ? Looks like Hung parliament at moment. Mum going to pop down to see Rory tomorrow and Hannah coming home for week on monday. Otherwise all well. Trust final days are great fun with you. Take Care Luv Dad & Mum

You almost pulled it off kid but not quite.
The video of the village fete. You had to be there but all we see is a glimpse of a dress or in the background chatting up to lads. But you dropped your guard at the throw a sponge booth.
You LAUGHED!! Gave the game away instantly.

Interstingly no more blogs since you have returned from the stroll in the park with you in them anyway.

Keep me posted about the end of Raleigh and what Lauren does next.
No use trying your mother, she and the Bombay Sapphire are back on intimate terms I am sad to report.

Sounds like a winner to me.

Seems like all others have forsaken you. I have not.

  42. Hello Fieldbase - could you pls forward this message for Alistair Muir?

Alistair - Louise's Mum Jane raises a good point (thanks Jane!) - you need to extend your insurance cover for your extra week - or if you need me to do so, please let me know... probably best to extend the policy you have already, rather than buy a whole new one, so pls give me the policy number and the company name/website to call?

Good luck in the run - I walked 10k yesterday in Maidstone temperatures and feel like a wet J-cloth today. The thought of running it at all, let alone there, horrifies me. Get a tuktuk, is my advice. Lots of love - Dad x

Kus, MAM

  48. Message for Lauren Pegg,

    Hi Lolly,
Well done on the trek my sweet, what an achievement eh. Spoke to Mummy yesterday and she updated me on what you are up to next....including the fab night in a spa hotel... well deserved! Have a great couple of weeks exploring Kerala, we are missing you lots and can't wait to see you in June.
We are off to the US and Canada next week and are v excited although the situation with the volcano is always in the back of minds. Ian says that if the ash cloud prevents us from flying, we will spend our 3 weeks in the Virgin Clubhouse at Heathrow instead!
Well take care Lolly, have lots of fun and enjoy!! Lots of love, hugs and kisses JJ & Ian xxxx

  50. Pegg, your dad's right, I have been earbashed by jack constantly about 'champions league' and '4th spot'. I think there's a mug of some kind involved? Democracy has fallen without you - parliament is in disarray and there are riots on the streets. (All true except for the riots bit) Genuine confusion abound - they are talking about coalitions and well hung politicians. Come home and sort it. It was your missing vote that caused this madness. Good luck x
