Here's the latest from our Environmental group in the National Park, we'll get some photos up soon to follow:

Alpha Two – Phase Three Update
By Project PROs Alice and Olivia

A week has gone by for Alpha Two’s final phase and the group have made great progress, completing six trenches, working our way through Monnie’s ipod and seeing loads of amazing wildlife.

Today’s safari trip yielded brilliant results; a trip to the elephant sanctuary saw many venturers getting up close and personal with reformed elephants and even feeding a baby one. We were especially lucky to see many wild elephants not to mention the many peacocks, bison and samba deer.

Other activities at the bungalow have included pool-making, lots of volley ball and lots of raucous music when electricity allows. Thanks to a few venturers’ special skills we have enjoyed many delicious meals ranging from noodles and ketchup to Indian fish curry and of course, porridge. Because of the delicious food, alpha two has started up an exercise regime in order to fight the flab!

We have enjoyed a presentation by WWF’s main man Mr Boomanithan showing us the context and vital importance of our work, adding pride and satisfaction to our feelings of physical exhaustion at the end of the day.

We have also had a visit from Photographer and pasta whizz, Dario, who has come out to India to do some Raleigh Head Office work with us. He took some amazing snaps for us working and on safari before cooking us a delicious meal of pasta with a fresh tomato sauce enjoyed by all.

We are hoping our final phase will continue with lots more elephant sightings, loud music and great food!

  4. Hey Graham,

Hope your having fun digging ditches for Elephants to stare at. You know your all out there forcing evolution to create jumping elephants. These elephants will cause earthquakes for miles around. More people will have to go out and fit bean bags to their feet to stop the noise pollution.

Anyway now that you know your all making world changing ditches I shall leave you with these words of wisdom "Why spend days digging ditches when you could just breed mice" :oP

Hope your having a great time still. I bet the elephants remind you of me, big, round and windy.

    Bye

    Paul (Bodwad)

We looked at cameras for you but the prices at the airport were not so much different,so dont know where to go from there.
Cant believe your Raleigh days are coming to an end it doesnt seem so long ago you wre setting off.Katherine is following in your trekking footsteps and has signed up for D of E silver. That involves camping out for 2 nights and a lot of walking sometime in May.I am praying for fine weather! She is nearly as durable as you!!!!!
Would love to hear from you when you can.

  9. For Kirsty

Hi Kirsty... glad to see you're on you ninth elephant trench! I'm looking forward to finding out what they're for (presumably not for catching elephants!). Have you seen any?? Back at work for 4 days now and last week's skiing is a fast fading memory... Mum back to school tomorrow (Friday). Haven't seen much of Kate this week... you probably know she went up to London for an assessment centre on Tuesday and we haven't seen her since... staying with Scarlett and partying hard as usual! So how are you? Seems ages since we heard from you... send a text when you can (if you can get a signal in the trenches). Have you got your travelling plans sorted out yet? Don't forget that we'll need a little bit of notice to get a flight arranged. Missing you lots & lots... Pxxx

  10. For Laura

Hello Laura! Great to speak to you the other day and I can't believe you're nearly at the end of your Raleigh stint. And it's nearly your BIRTHDAY! Have a very very happy day, darling, we'll be thinking of you madly, as always. We are all well, happy and very busy. Zanna and I had a great trip to Paris, staying with Sophie and family and walking our legs off around the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Rodin Museum, Brancusi Museum and the Orangerie. The weather was brilliant too so we both fell in love with Paris again. Edmund is supposed to be revising for his CE but finds helping Daddy with the calves more interesting which is testing my nerves. Spring has sprung on the farm, lots of healthy little black calves, bright green leaves on the hawthorn and all the wildlife is busy nesting too! Rollo is on fine form, he is growing up so fast- he and Edmund had a good two days with Granny in London having all sorts of treats! He's just back from a day at the Hawk Conservancy. Daddy is more busy than ever with all the other things he does, he is planning an overseas visit soon.
Edmund is being confirmed in Winchester Cathedral on 3rd May and of course I wish you could be there. But I hope all goes well with your trip to Goa and the north, it is such a good opportunity to see more of India. I have transferred what you asked me to, including a generous birthday present from G and J. (Perhaps a thank you letter???) Part of our contribution will have to stand as a present for now as well.
Lots and lots of love from all of us, we all love you very much indeed and we all miss you badly. I am hoping that Zanna will write as well, Mummy xxxxx

  11. Hi Kirsty

Its Sunday evening and I'm just grabbing a quick coffee at the computer before heading upstairs for a shower and an early night (you know I need the beauty sleep!). Its nine whole weeks to the day since I dropped you off (very early in the morning) at Heathrow at the start of your adventure - can't wait to see you again, that seems so long ago now.

I went to Jeff's garage yesterday to collect Jellybean - it turns out he has a chap who comes in occasionally to carry out bodywork repairs so I left the car there with him and he's going to find out what it will cost to get the passenger door etc repaired. If its reasonable I'll get it done ready for you coming home.

Kate headed back North yesterday but she only stopped-off briefly in Newcastle before heading up to Edinburgh for a 2-day party. I'm sure she will get some work done... eventually!

Spring has arrived here - its still pretty cold but the trees are starting to come into leaf and the fields and hedges are all starting to look very green (the golf course is too!). Quite different to when you left back in February. How is the weather there... pretty perfect at this time of year I guess?

Take enough time off from trench digging to send us a text very soon.

With lots & lots of love. P xxx.

  12. For Laura/Spouse

Spouse i called your mummy and she says that you have decided that you do not love us at all and your planing on hiding away in India for another month. Im very upset as i shall now be all slone on my birthday, which you assured me you would be here for, poor form spouse, poor form. You'll just have to buy me a massive birthday present to make up.

Looks and sounds like you are having a really mazing time though, so jealous and wish i was there too. Im very bored at the moment, i left uni on friday and im not going back, plans in action though to transfer into the second year at oxford brookes and complete my 1st year there. Oh Well, at least i will be around for the next 6months and will get to see you lots i hope. Also might be able to come inter-railing with you after all, we shall discuss when you get back.

Also wanted to wish you a very very very happy birthday and i hope you have the most fantastic day, we're both about to be 19, feels so old. I'm still going out with James, more impressive than your track record eh? I reckon you probably have a love intrest by now though, your nickname isnt slutcliffe for nothing.

Really am missing you spouse and we shall have to do something very exciting over the summer to make up for your extra month away. And where has my postcard been btw.

Helping mummy waitress tonight for a drinks party she's doing and she's getting stressy that im sitting on the computer rather than helping so i better go but i hope you have an amazing birthday and that you enjoy the rest of India, if you have an oppurtunity to get in touch please do! Im very lonely at the moment as everyone is abroad or at uni.

Miss you Spouse and Love you always

  13. Hello Laura,
This is URGENT as I gather you need this permission:
I give permission for you to go travelling around northern India after you finish at Raleigh. Even though this was not part of your original plan, I think it is a wonderful opportunity to see a bit more of that great country.
Granny J is all for it as well, and has given you a generous birthday present towards it (another thank you?) We are all well, Rollo went back to school tonight, sob, but he was happy to be back and is a lovely small dorm with three other boys. I have printed off the amazing picture of you in a bright blue sari - you all look lovely! Hope our package reached you in time, and that you have read all our blogs! Lots and lots of love, darling, from Mummy (Joanna Sutcliffe)
