In addition to taking the most incredible photos, our photographer Claire puts together a slide show to mark the end of each phase. Many of the images are those she has taken while others come from our talented venturers and PMs. Here are the ones that we at fieldbase love the most - enjoy!
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

ReplyDeleteAs we head into a wet and cold Easter weekend the news isn't dominated by an improved GDP figure for Q4, rail strikes that may or may not happen or by Irish banks in meltdown .. it's that Wayne is injured and may be out for a month. Nation in crisis.
Heard of the loss of a tent. Will make for tighter bonding on Tango 7!!
Hope you're coping with the demands of that so tough trek. We might have a stroll down to the Post Office down the High Street .. much the same sort of thing, just not quite as far.
Chris coming home for Easter. ManU playing Chleski so a nerve racking time ahead for him.
Take care and am writing

ReplyDeleteHi there - hope this catches the delivery. Did a blog earlier but didn't register. Sunny but cold here. Lots of snow north - even Mike called to warn me the roads were closed again. They lost a couple of trains in a snowdrift at Carrbridge! Had supper with MFs, Burns, and Grants - just what Dad and I need eh! Should join you to lose weight. Pictures up on blog of jungle trek - from the expressions it looked tough going. Well done. Hope this one not so arduous - you need to eat more curry haha. HEH off to Greece E. Sunday and hopefully warm weather. Thinking of you as usual and looking forward to more pics. lots of love from whole family.
Heeey Catriona,
ReplyDeletehope your still having an amazing time. Quiet here without you, Ale's doing work all the time so not too much going on, playing lots of Hockey, doing the Easter Hockey Festival this weekend which should be good, then going to France next week. Going do a bit of traveling about maybe go to Berlin and a few other cities. I will be home around the 23th of April. I have looked into coming to India to meet you in Delhi, but flights are expensive and without being able to talk to you I've found it hard to know what you would like to do. Mum said you may do some traveling with some friends sounds wicked, India looks unbelievable! Been reading about it. I think my plan will be to wait until you get back and then try and sort some stuff out, maybe go to a country that doesn't need to many vaccinations, like US!? I reckon I will end up going down to Ciro for Nona's 80th which is the 10th of April with mum and dad and I'm guess you if your back, could go up to Rome after or something. Anyways all for now.

ReplyDeleteHi Guys,
Despite all the flight cancellation drama, i made it back to Belfast in one piece and only after 3 days at home do i feel completely clean again! Missing life in Ealamanna though, what can i say, it grew on me!
The photos on the blog and from Ritas laptop look amazing, the project seems so long ago already.
News from the UK: The weather has been predictably awful. More snow, quite a contrast from the Indian sun! However, for those of us lucky enough to have ginger hair and pale skin, perhaps it is a more suitable climate!
Football wise, it's just not the same game here when compared with the intense competition of the Ealamanna cup. Although, interestingly enough, Cardiff are just as unpopular in the UK as they were with the EFA (sorry Alan!) - Linfields' shins will never be the same again!
Thanks to all of you for making my month in India truly unforgettable. Good luck with your next phases, can't wait to hear the craic when you all return. I have now become the blogs most avid follower (can you sense the boredom!)
All the best guys, stay safe!

ReplyDeleteDear Charles
We are now in Suffolk and Daddy has arrived. Mum and Dad have insisted on putting a photo of you from the blog as our computer wallpaper, so now we can see you all the time - great debate over which one to choose! lol! :)
Hope the trek is going well. Shame your group has lost a tent and the route map.
Raining all day long here; enjoy the sun!

ReplyDeleteHi Hattie,
Hope all is well your end and the trek is going nicely. It was good to chat the other day after quite so long. Bristol has been very wet and windy all week, however thankfully (!) I've been inside working all the time. Really not much to say my end, the only time I've been out of the house is to get more books from the library! Geek.... Hopefully I am going home tomorrow for easter, though I suspect I will actually be off on Saturday morning instead. Tilburg on Tuesday too, which I am very excited about, mainly because there is no internet there so I can't do much work! woop woop!
Looking forwards to chatting again,
Love Matt
HI Kate,
ReplyDeleteHope you are okay. Everyone here fine - we all went to see War Horse last night - it was fantastic! I did not think I would like it but it is the best thing I have seen in the theatre for years! Dad stayed awake through the whole performance!!!
We have finished for Easter now. I hope you are fasting today and not eating any meat?
Not much else happening here. Hopefully going to see Finbar Furey in the Salvatorian next Saturday. He has split up with the rest of the Fureys but the Salvo is a strange venue for someone who was so famous!
Lots and lots of love, Mum, Dad and Veg xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ReplyDeleteHi Charles,
How is the trek going? I hope it is not too strenuous. Just think...it is all good fitness!
I watched Arsenal vs Barcelona. I hate to say it but it was an incredible game. Final score was 2-2, although Arsenal were incredibly lucky not to be about 7-0 down. Just to give you an idea of how much Arsenal were outplayed by Barcelona, Barcelona had 71% possession and had 21 shots on goal compared to Arsenal's 5. Next leg is on Tuesday and annoyingly I am not going to be able to watch it as I have a work event that night.
Also, Gallas, Arshavin and Fabregas are all out until the end of the season so it doesn't look too promising for our Champions League/Premiership hopes. They all got injured in the Barcelona game!
I am down in Suffolk now just until Monday and am off to Swindon for the day on Tuesday.
Hope all is well with you and that the tent/routemap situation is resolved.
Lots of love,
Emma xxx
Hi Sophie,
ReplyDeleteHave just seen a couple of pictures of you. I like the laurel crown.
Its been snowing in Scotland this week and we've had some heavy rain. Not quite monsoon weather but pretty heavy for our part of the world.
Am going with grandpa to Salisbury for a couple of days and then to lunch in Canterbury where D is all week....Will garden and plant.
Have a very happy Easter,
Much love, M and D.

Realised that this is first time ever that you have no mobile,internet,facebook in your life - must feel great (although a 10 minute Skype hit would be nice right now). Weird Easter in Cornwall - very cold and wet so you are better where you are, although we have pasties and Rick Steins fish and chips. Mols in heavy revison camp for exams so not exactly fun city for her. Still no news from UCL and working on outstanding stuff on SB. Lots of love to you and all your new friends. Hi Alan, great to see the latest photos posted up by Claire. Would love to know what you're up to in your next project. I'm wishing you a Happy Easter but I doubt you'll know it's Easter with no eggs but then you're not that bothered about chocolate are you? I'll make you up a big fruit platter when you come home!! As with all comments from the UK weather is lousy here which is a shame for the castle's revenue this Easter. Hope you're not getting too sunburnt!! Lots of love from Mum, Mark and Steve xx
ReplyDeleteDear Dr Tom,Happy Easter Darling.I loved the picture of you in the hammock.I hope all the digging is going well and you are not getting too stiff and burnt.I am looking forward to seeing some pictures of what you have been doing.We are all going to see Alice and the Wonderlands supporting Black Bart at the BIC on Easter Sunday night and I think Katie is going to come too.Lots of Love Mum xxx

Having a lazy, long easter weekend - just watching the football now. Chelsea are beating Man Utd 1-0 (with only 20 mins left), so I'm looking forward to teasing Chris later.
Dad's been doing very well at keeping us all updated and has sent around some links on where you are, it looks amazing. I'm very jealous!
I've just been reading the blog... Can't believe you took HAIR STRAIGHTENERS with you. Unbelievable! It's no wonder you needed those additional 15 litres for your rucksack!

ReplyDeleteHee Meertje!

ReplyDeleteHi Hens,
ReplyDeleteMummy and daddy here. We are in Mauritius now - it is quite like Nevis and good to get away from the cold and wind in England. Lots of golf and tennis and we are hoping to go swimming with dolphins later in the week. Bad w/e for Spurs as they lost to Sunderland and Aston Villa and Man City both won. Hope the trek is going well and look forward to seeing some pics and news of it. Take care, love from all of us xxx

ReplyDeleteDear Charles,
We were so pleased to hear from your parents
about your phone call. We are pleased that you are surviving the rigours of the trek. There has been a lot of interesting sports news over the last few days. Unexpectedly Cambridge won
The Boat Race, Chelsea beat Man U and Andy Roddick beat Berdych in the final of the Miami tournament. Federer, Nadal,Djokovic and Murray all fell by the wayside. Last month we discovered mice were in the house so we called in a pest controller, who we have used before to tackle wasps. His motto is "We take no prisoners!". The mice seem now to have disappeared. On Thursday we are going to Paris on the Eurostar for a long week-end. There was going to be a rail strike but fortunately this has been called off. We will write you a letter on our return.
Much love
Grandma and Grandpa
For: RACHEL HARD.
ReplyDeleteRachy! I'm so excited that I have managed to work out how to write to you! I've put your name in capitals at the top of this message so I'm really hoping it gets to you. It's Easter Monday here so you it's nearly 2 weeks since you left - it seems to have gone really quickly already but I know that Lau is missing you loads. She said she'd been sending letters - maybe they will arrive before you leave hehe! We're planning to all meet up next week so hopefully that will provide Lau with some distraction. I have less than a week of holiday left and I have seen anyone yet they are all so busy - damn Bath and its stupid holidays. Anyway, I hope you're having a really fabby time - I'm insanely jealous especially because it's pouring it down with rain right now and it has been all week :-( What have you been doing? I've been looking at the photos on the blog thingy but I can't seem to spot you - get in front of that camera dammit! Are all the people lovely? I hope they are - they look nice from the photos haha! I really hope India is loving you my dear and that you are having the most amazing time.
Doctor Who started this weekend and I was surprisingly impressed by Matt Smith, he exceeded my expectations but sometimes he'll say a line and he sounds just like DT, it's sad, I feel like I’m in mourning for him! And (oh god I started a sentence with "and"!) they've re-done the TARDIS; it's sort of a purply-blue colour now, quite strange and it’s all different inside. However, I'm not sure about this new assistant woman, she's a bit of a slag, spent the whole of the first episode in a slutty policewoman’s outfit! I'm gutted you're missing it, now I only have Lau to discuss it all with! Anyway this is turning into a bit of an essay now and I'm scared that if it's too long they won’t print it!
I really hope you're having a lovely time and if you're feeling a bit down then this might cheer you up.
Love you absolutely loads
Love Cara xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
P.S. I have been given so much chocolate for Easter that I may actually turn obese, so I really wish I could send some to you because you probably need it a lot more than me!
