Two sugars in my tea?
The loop with Claire and Tom on board has just returned from Charlie 2 and the tribal village of Kudimery which is tucked away in the higher lands of our neighbouring state, Tamil Nadu. The setting is idyllic, tall green trees offset the tea surrounding tea plantations and are a stark contrast to the dryer regions of Kanartaka where many of the other groups are based.
And you can make it with these leaves....?
Layla demonstrates that it is indeed possible to sort of fit in a backpack
George brings technology to Kudimery
While Layla and Owen rely on the good old fashion air guitar
Of slight concern is the presence (or at least perceived presence) of a higher power. Noises at night, holly goat bones appearing in long drop sites and strange flapping sensations has got all a little on edge – including Claire.

The group is working alongside the local people to refurbish their substandard housing. So far they have taken up the floors, prepared the roofs and sanded down interior and exterior walls in preparation for painting.

ReplyDeleteHappy Easter chick(lol)
Have been wondering all day what you have been up to today. Received your email and great to hear you are well and enjoying yourself. I will try and see if i can find some flat sweeties and hope you receive them.
I will write tomorrow when i get home and send off on Tuesday when i am back at work.
Had Roast Beef today yum yum lol, i am sure it will taste all the better when you get home.
Lol uncle soggy fog noo nearly ate one of Mollies dog chocolate eggs today by mistake and Aunty Frodo was going to let him, i had to tell him before he did. Nan and Grandad had a fun day yesterday with there new washing machine and nearly ended up divorcing each other (wishful thinking on grandads part i think), eventually they called up in blind panic to ask us to save them as it had been on a spin for 2 1/2 hours.Nan, Grandad and technology do not mix, got them sorted though after showing them how it works and they sat and watched it for 45 mins while it went through the cycle saying ooh and ahh and how quiet it is(oh joy). Grandad said he had nans bags packed lol you can just imagine them cant you.
Anyway chicken as i said i will drop you a line when i get home so take care and love you always.

ReplyDeleteHi Julie
Thinking of you and hoping you are well and having a great time. Hope your kit has dried out after the rain the other night.
It`s been a quiet Easter here. Weather has been better than expected except for Saturday afternoon when we had hailstones and heavy rain with floods at Mindrum. Been able to take Bonny out every day. Planning a trip to Kielder to walk round the reservoir, but I don`t suppose we`ll manage the full 26 miles.
Sounds like there`s a blog coming from fieldbase in the next couple of days so we`re looking forward to that.
Got you an Easter egg btw. Dad has sent you an e.mail with some photos of Bonny on Tynemouth beach.
Take care. With love from us all.

p.s. Happy Easter to everyone!

Paula poo (Charlie 4)
ReplyDeleteHi poo face mam asked me to let you know she is getting her lapyop fixed so she will be in touch in a few days. Mam also sent your email to me and im sorry but a few trees is a poor excuse for lack of tanage. I actually have a theory that your not even in india its all a shady set up in some dark corner of newcastle and i wont have my thoery dispelled until i see tanage photo proof lol.
I spent easter in Kent went to an enchanted forest to see a zeedonk (zebra and donkey cross breed apparently)Firstly enchanted forest my ass it was just muddy, windy and cold and secondly the zeedonk looked mostly like donkey and just ate hay so i was well impressed. I had a lovely roast dinner tho yummmmyyyy with mashed and roast tatties and yorkshire puds oh yes!!!!!
I hope the class room building is going well and that you are playing nice with the children it must be amazing to make a difference that matters to someone so much. I miss you lots and look forward to tanage pics.

To Lauren Pegg, Hey! I get to post a message before your Mother.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you involved in the good work in the village. Was pussy in the well, ding dong dell?
Sorry I missed you on Saturday as I was working in Manor Park. Maybe next time.
G has sold your collection of stuffed squirrels to pay the rent for this month so we have a roof over our heads for another 31 days.
I fear that your meerschaum pipes and Sherlock Holmes first editions will be next into the Pawn Shop!
Has Rebecca told you about the "Good Friday" lost & then found handbag? High Drama as usual.
A happy ending I am glad to report.
Went to see baby Fabio on Easter Sunday. a cute little lad if ever there was.
I look forward to looking forward and leave you with something that G is always saying.
"And you good yeomen, whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The games afoot:
Follow your spirit:and, upon this charge
Cry " God for Harry! England and Saint George!"
At least that is what I think she said.
Might just have been "Do you fancy and egg sandwich?"
Keep smiling Lady L and say halloooo to all your new chums for me.
Stragely still not missing you and mired in unused toilet paper.
Your mother now has Skype and her peekaboo website has had 27 hits already all from admirers.
Take care and smile.

ReplyDeleteHi Kiki!
Happy Easter darling, hope you enjoyed it - it's one you'll never forget - Easter on a beach on the south Indian coast. We have a teeny bit of blue sky here (at 7 pm!) but generally it has been a dark depressing Easter weekend. We had a lovely roast lamb yesterday, just the 2 of us, and we wondered what you would be celebrating with. Dad is cooking dinner (yes, shock, horror)so I thought I'd put pen to paper and also write a blog in the hope it might reach you before the Raleigh Team visit Echo 5. Dad insisted on staying home this weekend but has got lots done. Highlight for me was going into town to put together a goodie box for Ant. Things are pretty tough for him at the mo but more in the letter which I'll take to the Post Office tomorrow. Back to work :( Everyone asking for you and adding to the blog hits on the Raleigh site. Louise across the road asked me to send their love. Have you changed your flights yet? Keep up all the good work - thinking of you all the time. Big hugs & kisses, MxDxxxxx
To Lauren Pegg (Charlie 2)
ReplyDeleteHi Lolly,
Off on hols tomorrow so the guineas have been packed away and I've just about packed EVERYONE's bags...phew! It looks like you are having a wonderful time out there and exploring the region lots and lots; nice to see you laughing in the pics. At the mo I would rather be there than here as Eleanor and Brehyr are arguing about whose eggs are whose and I just feel like jumping up and down on all of them - the eggs not the girls!!!
Had a lovely time at JJ and Ian's yesterday. Lots of egg hunting, barbecuing, banoffee pie and Band Hero. I was much better at the guitar than the drums - how on earth does anyone do all the stuff they have to do on the drums??? David was far worse than I was though, so I feel suitably smug.
Oh well, I'm off now to have some tea. Lots of love, keep smiling.
All my love - Mother Ducks.
Hi Owen

ReplyDeleteLovely to see you in a few of the pics :) Hope your still having the most amazing time, looks like it! Still need to work on the tan though I see :P
Not much news from here. Been a bit crazy since I broke up for Easter, was in The Spanish last night and the night before and in Trinity the night before that - the usual Harrowwww nights (not as good without you though!) Lost my voice as well, got a couple of days to recover, then a few of us are off to Brighton on Wednesday, can't wait to get away for a bit even though tis only one night. If I pass Hooly on the way I'll wave and say hello for you lol.
Not much going on apart from that, gonna be getting down with essaying and lesson-planning as usual.
Expect a letter from me very soooon!! Miss u loadsssssssss and as always, love you more than planets. Take care!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Lieve Lot,

Meeting Helly for tea in Edinburgh tonight looking forward to her banter.
Haven't heard a lot from Echo 5. I bet you're time is full to overflowing with banter and graft!
Noticed there's not a lot of mention of the ol' minibeasts. Are there any camel spiders or near relatives?!

To Lauren Pegg,
ReplyDeleteI wonder what little surprises your sister means?
Could it be the limpet infestation on her racing yacht?
Perhaps the slight distemper her Polo ponies are suffering out in Argentina.
Of course it might be that Lewis Hamilton is having a tough time in F1 as she is not there to be his muse this season.
I am sure all will be revealed in the fullness of time.
Your mother is "on holiday" now and with out giving too much away, I hope The Priory is taking good care of her.
They told me she should make a full recovery in time for Christmas.
Tis time to go into the garden to mow the lawn for the first time this year.
I leave you with some thoughts of the Chinese General Sun Tzu.
"One who speaks deferentially but increases his preparations will advance. One who speaks belligerently and advances hastily will retreat.
One who seeks peace without setting any prior condition is executing a stratagem.
When they see potential gain but do not know whether to advance, they are tired.
Hah so! Sagacious words written in the middle of the first millenium BC.
Take care Lauren looking forward to seeing you again...................... but still not missing you!

ReplyDeleteDear Rachel, Hope the move to the new area has gone okay. Grandma has gone home now but I still have a few more days off work to carry on the gardening. Saw the new Nanny McPhee film with grandma, Sian and Tony : great fun, particularly the synchronised swimming piglets. Weather is still surprisingly good here : had a walk on the hills with Tim today and tea at the Kettle Sings, sitting outside. Getting excited about Three Choirs rehearsals starting next week and celebrating by meeting some singing friends in the Kings Head for supper before the first rehearsal. There was a bit of a drama Saturday night with several fire engines driving up the road : turns out one of the housemistresses houses at the college had a serious fire. Luckily nobody was hurt as everyone was away for the Easter holidays. I'm out Tuesday evening at Book Club, Wednesday supper at Carol's to plan Chapter 8 publicity etc and then off to Grandmas Thursday for my Tavistock meeting Friday. Come back Saturday in time for supper at Steve and Caths! So you can see I'm keeping busy. Love you so much darling. You are the best daughter in the world : looking forward to hearing about all your adventures so much. All my love mum xxx

ReplyDeleteHi Rachel! I hope your having an amazing time. Me and the girls are all thinking of you and hoping your having a blast and missing you lots, we must catch up on everything when you get back. I hope although you dont tan very well you will have an amazing one by now. Not much to catch up on here, funniest thing happened is we all were meeting up for lunch for my birthday and we rang philly to see where she was and she thought it was the day after and was still in her pj's when we were all at pizza express.... bless her! lol. Also we went on a shopping trip into anne summers as we had time to fill... with Laura.. enough said, i think she wanted to avoid that shop really lol. Dont worry nothing exciting was purchased, just browsing! When you, jord and Niki all get back into the country we will go out for dinner somewhere and have a big catch up bash! cant wait... lots of love x becky xx x x x x x x x x x x x x x x
Hee Lot! Dikke kus, xxxxx
ReplyDeleteFor Rachel Hard Echo 4 dear Rachel, just a quick hi before I set off for Book Club. Hope you are well and enjoying yourself. Went to Woody's recital in the cathedral at lunchtime today. He was really good and so was Ben who played the piano. Carly was there, looking adoringly at Ben and afterwards they went to lunch with both sets of parents so that romance looks serious! Susanna was there with baby Katrina who is now fine and chubby and promptly fell asleep as soon as Woody started to sing! Still having lovely sunshine here which is brilliant as I have one more day off before going back to work on Thursday. Will stay at Grandmas Thursday and Friday night as I have my London meeting on Friday. What is it about Laura and Ann Summers...I'm intrigued...! All my love darling, big hugs, will write another letter soon, mum xx

Louise Carter:
ReplyDeleteHi Lou,
How are you getting on in India? Hopefully your tan is coming on a bit. I think it's great that you're off travelling- James and Hamish really enjoyed going across on their gap years. I'm busy preparing for my exams (5 weeks away) and the may ball. Are you taking lots of photos and keeping a diary?
I think Cardiff is probably your best bet for Uni with the Bordeaux exchanges to really improve your business french, although St. Andrews is probably quite good as well and is a beautiful location. Anyway, carry on enjoying yourself and send me a message on Facebook when you can. Lots of love, your big brother,
Jonny xxx
hey Kripa,
ReplyDeletelooks like you are having an amazing time! Just spent a lovely (but tiring) weekend in York with Sarah, Caroline and Amelie. You are missing blue skies without a plane in sight and lots of party political broadcasts (yawn)!!
take care and enjoy,
Jane x
Jai Ho! Lauren Lady Kidsco Pegg. Have you told them your real name is Kidsco?
ReplyDeleteDid you get my last message I wrote on the blog in the echo 5 bit? Im so confused with all these echoes and charlies and foxtrots i feel like im in a very sinister reenactment of world war two.
Well i am suitably furious that you have made contact with erin april and hannah on facebook and neglected my humble wall?!!! and talk of letters being sent which i have seen no sign of at number 52. Please rectify this situation otherwise i will burn your polka dot mittens and never speak to you again. I kid you not.
Loving the photos! Can i see a spot of facepainting in there? Glad to see you utilising your skills have you taught the local children the myth of weasel brown?
It is so hot here its basically India. I am wearing shorts today and have had to mop up several sweat moustaches. Erins birthday last weekend and we went to Gilgamesh and April has just found out that shes pregnant with Sam Hendersons baby.
Are you still loving it? and where are you travelling after? (Im hoping questions will advocate a response)
Miss you loads and cant wait for your return. Love you!
Izzy

Ps Jenny Browne sends her love. As does weasel.
