Alpha Two’s work is progressing well. Despite some initial problems with arranging transport, we have so far managed to complete 5 trenches. The group has been working well together; splitting into two groups to ensure that everyone gets a chance to rest and making sure that everyone has a go at different jobs within the trench.
Our afternoons have also been productive: we have created a small garden within the compound for the rangers. In digging up some heavy turf soil to make room for top soil we have managed to burst the main water supply pipe for our Bungalow and all the nearby rangers’ bungalows. The forester has ensured us that it will be fixed in the next couple of days.
Other slightly less destructive activities have included building a pair of bookshelves and a swing and the painting of the ‘om’ sign on the floor of the gazebo. We have also been on trips to the local primary school, HD Kote and the nearby watering hole, although there were no elephants there at the time.

Currently there are plans in place to go on a safari on 18th March, (which will be tomorrow). Despite all the progress made in trenches, the most productive place has been the kitchen. We have made potato cakes, lentil soup, bread, apple and date cake and yesterday we had a fish curry that was made by the Indian rangers. We all expect to come back twice the size we were when we left.

Lovely too hear the news from all the groups, sounds like everyone is having a terrific time.
I loved reading the latest news of you all singing and laughing as you walk and 'experience the best days of your lives'.
It reminded me of the our last family walk in the Lakes with Jo and co. as we sang and laughed going up the hill.
Just back from a week end with Nanny she sends her love and loved too hear all your news.
Jenny called around after work last night with goodies she is home for the Easter break. She was sooooooooo excited you had phoned her!!

ReplyDeleteGreat to speak to you - sorry you missed Granny! She had a great time - went to the Russian Exhibition at the Royal Academy and The Importance of being Earnest. Jack and Anne had a big lunch in London on Friday for Anne's 70th so lots of family.
Football is hotting up - big Birmingham/Newcastle clash tonight. Seven clubs above us all in danger, so should still be exciting for us v Birmingham on May 3.
We'll be in Jodhpur and Udaipur for Easter. We'll text or blog our hotel numbers, but don't feel under any obligation to call.

I just finished my 2nd work of the day and then i had to clear up some idiots sick when i got bak (the same guy that said diana deserved to die) and stop him from attacking my lairy northern room mate. so much for sleep! lol Its still so loud out there because of st patriks apparently is a big deal here lol iv mnever heard of it I love you hope your ok i know u r. I've asked Theo to go & buy champagne for them all and Ems has gone armed with party poppers, sparklers and mini caterpillar cakes! She's having a great time in Meribeland loving every minute. I'm worried I haven't heard if you have fully recovered, I'm going to ring Raleigh tomorrow just to check you're ok. Have a fun safari and watch out! ReplyDeleteBronwin!! Hope you are having a fantastic time... Looks and sounds like you are from your letters and photos! Me and Nick have decided to write you a letter tomorrow so you can look forward to that yeah. Loved the bit in your letter about you falling on your face in front of everyone right at the beginning... Very funny! Just to fill you in with some stuff you really won't want to know: Anderson Council got played on BBC radio last night so thats sweet. Dads got permanent beard now which is a bit more chilled and some good job opportunities have come up for him. Mum is as ever looking after us all well and It is lovely to see nick (as he is down for Easter). Oh yeah... Spent 8 and a half hours in the Cathedral this morning coz had to go to that gay 5:00am service. Can't think of anything much worse than that to be honest. Have been asked to audition for some gimish choral boy band thing (bit like G4) with record contracts etc but am going to tell them to fuck themselves as I have standards and do not want to loose the will to live. Please remember my birthday. I really hope this gets to you as am feeling quite guilty of the fact that I have not been in touch yet. Love your big bro.. Jonx
