Loop Trip

Road trip to A1 & A2: Brian, Sally, Deepak & Miranda
17th to 19th March
By Logs Assistant Manager, Sally!

After leaving a sunny fieldbase early one sunny afternoon, we arrived at Hosekerasunda at just the right time: dinnertime. The meal was provided by the village and tasted delicious, as usual. We joined the group for their evening meeting after the meal, and joined in with their review game: Fortunately, Unfortunately, where you have to say one good thing and one bad thing that has happened to you during the day. After a good day, Graham handed over Day Leader duties to his deputy: Karim, who was looking forward to the responsibilities. Once the meeting was finished, PM Sally read out a story (complete with sound effects and voices) Graham had written. It was a horror story about a couple living in an old house meeting a grizzly end, and Graham promises that it was purely coincidence that the victim’s name was Sally, it was nothing personal! No one wanted to go to bed straight away after the story; everyone was afraid of having nightmares, but after the amount of chocolate, fizzy drinks, sweets and crisps eaten from the loop shop everyone was wide awake and buzzing for another couple of hours at least.

The next morning, after a breakfast of porridge (again!) we joined half of the group relaxing by the reservoir whilst the other half worked on the toilets. When they swapped over after a couple of hours we had a tour of the toilets built during the first phase, and of the toilets being built in this phase. The toilets are coming along really well; the group has done a fantastic job of the construction and they are on target to have them finished and ready to be used by the middle of next week, when they leave. Everyone appears to have a really good tan but most of it actually washes off at the end of the day. Everyone is having great fun and all are really proud of what they have achieved; taking great pleasure in showing us the bits they actually built themselves. The villagers are also enjoying having them there and take every opportunity to dress the girls in saris; some more than once, and provide hot, sweet tea on a half-hourly basis.

For the afternoon they were visiting the MYRADA office a few kilometres away. Myrada is one of the project partners of Raleigh International in India, and pointed us in the direction of the project initially. Everyone was really looking forward to the visit; if only for the chance of hot showers, proper beds and pillows!

We left at lunch time, leaving our Finance Manager, Miranda behind as she is staying for a week to help in the school in the village.

I guess your trek may be over by the time you get this so I hope you had a ball. It certainly looked like you were from the great pics.
Bizarre here snow and howling winds and its Easter?????
We had a roaring fire lastnight, very cosie.
Sorry to talk of leaving India (not something you will want to do I am sure!) but to let you know Trailfinders rang. Your flight time from Bangalore to Mumbai has changed it is 25mins earlier at 2030. I guess that will affect a number of you? They suggest checking for any additional changes to all flights a few days before.
You have loads of time before that and your third project to look forward too. That looks amazing the pics of the wildlife have been brill especialy that bear peeping around the tree!!
We love and miss you more and more

  5. For Kirsty

Hi Kirsty... Easter Saturday and it is freezing! Have just returned from lunch with G'pops and Audrey... they send their love. Not a huge amount happening here and don't have lots of exciting news for you but I'm terrified of getting anothet telling-off by text for not writing often enough! Have you heard from Kate? Sounds like she's having a great time in SA, very hot by all accounts. Planning to have a lazy Easter Day tomorrow... will probably just spend the day feeding Mum chocolate (which is of course quite demanding in itself) - we'll keep your Easter egg safely tucked away for you for when you get back.
Will post another message tomorrow or Monday... in the meantime keep safe and smiling!! All our love M & P xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  6. Darling Charles,

We are missing you tremendously over this Easter weekend and we have just left Dad, David and Wills in the hot tub...even tho there has been snow here today. We are lucky to have everyone here for the weekend just before they all head off to Zermatt on Friday. Catherine left for Palermo two days ago and Mummy is a bit bereft without her fashion guru but of course she is still looking fab!

We do wish you were with us, seems a bit strange to only have three Arnot's here but all the more Easter Eggs for us. Hopefully the boat will be in by the time you return and we will have a jolly time on the river in May.

    Love you lots and lots,

    Suz

  9. Hi Again Josie
We are all well here -
do you need us to send you some boots?
    do yours hurt?
only you don't seem to be wearing any!!!
We had an easter bunny hunt today - the bunny did us proud - well - Danny and Charlotte anyway!
I got a note that said "I owe you an egg - love - the bunny"!
    cheapskate eh!!!
Danny is up to his neck in year 12 work and Charlote is drowning in a sea of unwashed clothes in her bedroom - so you see - life is normal.
    lots of love
    Joan danny Charlotte

  11. Hi Kirsty

Just reading the latest blog update and it sounds like you managed to have some Easter celebrations? What's happening today (Easter Monday)... do you have a day off from your project? I'm sitting here drinking hot coffee and eating porridge trying to warm up after an early morning cycle run, it's been a very, very cold Easter weekend. Hopefully its a little warmer for you!? I suppose you only have a couple more days on phase 2 before you head back to base... I'm sure the local people in Hosekerasunda (especially the kids) will miss you. Mum wrote you a long letter yesterday... we'll get it posted tomorropw and hopefully it won't be too long before it reaches you. In the meantime I'll keep on the blog! Home is much too quiet without you... missing you lots. Padre xxxx
