Field Base Fun!

Ok, so even the field base team need to have some fun! With the venturers and PMs half way through phase 1 and the loop visits a completed distant memory, it was agreed that a well earned rest was in the pipeline.

Coffee with a smile!

So at 9 am off went the field base team for a day of delightful water-park  fun. This was of course following a night of prayers for clear skies and sunshine so that we could at last even out the seemingly odd tan lines acquired but some.

First stop! Coffee day, India’s equivalent of Starbucks! Where, it can be said, some over indulgence of Ice Coffee, Lattes and Chocolate cake is not so unheard of.

FB team and a non curried/ non oat breakfast!
Next stop! Thorpe Park...... No.... This is GRS Fantasy park with guaranteed wetness, water slides and more. Fully equipped with its very own 'Lazy river' and South Indian Niagara.

Water park paradise!
Let's hope that log stays!

DPM Jen taking full advantage of the luxury power shower!
But alas, the fun came to an end when the heavens opened and it was time to return to field base to hear from the groups who no doubt had been working a lot harder than we had.

It's not all fun and games here at FB and hard work has to be undertaken. So at the crack of dawn we were up and trotting down to Jayapura School for a Saturday morning English lesson. Of course this was after our morning caffiene intake at the local chai shop.

A Chai a day keeps the doctor away.
After brushing up on our grammar and English comprehension we were in full swing as Jayapura resident English teachers.
Are we missing something?
Everyone knows Donks now.
Ganesh and Cat recharge with Chai no.2!

A very attentive class.

No he is not getting a detention!  This is English conversation.
And after a hard class and a pretty scary looking jungle beard, what else other than a cut throat shave to look in tip top condition?

Not sure how he would taste in a Jayapura Samosa!

That's all for now folks, there will be an update from the groups soon.

    My Gorgeous Yasmin
I am now back to rainy London for a week. Toby was so excited to see me ! As usual !!!!!

It is good to be home in London and away form the unbearable heat of Dubai.... I sometimes forget that I grew up there ! I guess I have spent many years in London and my body is not conditioned to heat and humidity.
All is well at Clarendon Gardens... Lita is looking great and in good form. I showed her your photos on the Raleigh blog and she has sent you a message.

Zandie is looking well and we took Toby to the park yesterday . Toby's hair has grown a lot but I really like it long and have no intention of cutting it yet. I will definitely wait until you get back.

I have not heard from you at all, and I wonder how things are going. I presume you are very tired after your daily trek that you have no energy to write.

    Love you lots and lots.....
Woofs from Toby, Kitty, Singa, Zandie and Lita.
    AND Mummy :-))))

For Rachel Stott in Foxtrot 1:

Rachel! Miss you so much, can't believe it's been 7 MONTHS now, think I'm counting the days til you're back!! Trip sounds great, not guna lie the blog confuses me slightly as it's not always about your group (not as simple as stalking a facebook page), but looks like you're doing some really worthwhile stuff in a gorgeous location. Keep going! Also I can sympathise with the lack of tan and carbohydrate overload - was exactly the same in Uganda, thought I'd come back thin and tanned but instead I'm fat and pale! ha. Your manual labour will burn it all off though. You must be in the adventure phase by now, hope you have tons of fun.
I've been back in England 2 nd a half weeks now and it's WEIRD - everything is so clean and fast-paced and worst of all, COLD. Have been working back at atgmedia and doing loads of catching up with everyone in the evenings, it's been nice...started the Westminster phone thing (lolol) this week too so really busy now. Thinking of you loads though, can't wait for pardyweek2k11, siksiksik HAHA love you XXXX

    To Rachel Stott (Foxtrot 1)

How are you!! Hope you're getting on well! Weird to think of you out in the wilderness without being glued to your BB ;) hahaa I joke but still thought you'd want to get some chat from home! (Shock you have still found a way to communicate with the outside world!!!!)

so a little bit of chat from home - turns out Hayleys dad is in a DAVID BOWIE tribute band! Caroline, Hayley and I went to a concert! It was so funny - especially as Hayley (after being in Africa for 3 months) had ZERO tolerance to alcohol got very drunk! (quite amusing)...I awoke with a very sore head also and ended up staying at the Ames residence all of the Sunday recovering!!

I started working at a Sports Marketing company a few weeks ago - pretty much every night is spent going for "after work drinks"! Last week i was at the European Fencing Championships in Sheffield (wasn't too bad as it turns out Fencers are really hot!).. Also been working away towards the massive sailing competition that is happening in the Isle of Wight. Its tough and tiring but really enjoying it!

I hope you're finding the same - everything that is tough and tiring and has you testing yourself is always much more worthwhile in the end so enjoy it and make some good memories that you can take back to (rainy!) England with you!!!

Love you heaps & miss you millions!!!

    PS. so EXCITED for portugal!!!!

  8. For Struan Boase (Charlie 1)
    Hi Struan!
We're up in Ardfern, working on the old mobile broadband, and looking forward very much to hearing how the community project went. We've sent you 3 letters so hopefully you will get those back at Field Base. And no doubt you will let us know where you are going next! Lots of people in Glasgow are asking how you are getting on.
John and Ingrid are coming up here in a couple of days with their new dog. House moving on slowly, although it will look different soon, as they are about to strip off the roof tiles.
I was in London, and saw Rowan who is going on holiday tomorrow to Dubrovnik. She and Greg have found a new flat, quite near the old one. It is a basement flat in an old house. I have seen the outside. Greg has job interviews in London, too. They move in in mid August. lots of love Dad
    Hi Struan
I had fun on my interiors course at the Art School last week - trying to apply anything I learned to the house here! Missing your company here in Ardfern - need some live piano music! Maggie just phoned saying she is thinking of buying a flat on gardner street - the very steep one. Is there anything you want sent out to you - they say only small packages, and I suppose you might not get it till the next time you are at field base ( getting the jargon?!) we have crummy internet access here - hope this gets through to you. Take care and lots of love Mum

Today is the big move. We have a team of 3 men. Daddy and I are at home, Philip and Carolyn took Grandmother over to Park Pointe this morning to get her out of the way. Pretty stressful. Aunt Cindy says hello; she came over to PP yesterday to help daddy and me unpack kitchen dishes, etc. No holiday here!!! Nearly 40 degrees, and only 10 am.
    lots of love, mummy

  16. Hello Jen Shelby Donkin

I hope this is where I am supposed to write, Im not really sure what I am doing but anyway...How is life? the pictures look cool. How was the theme park/water park? as good as Xplor?! (better not have been, that was 90 whole dollars, almost as value for money as monkey river)

I got your letter the other day and it was adored. You're really got into the Raleigh style with the "my bed" "my shower" etc I liked it.

Sounds like we should set up a new business venture on your return and market these coffee/ice cream frozens in the UK.

What else does the world of fieldbase entail? Do you do radio raleigh? Is it equally as high quality as in CR&N? Cant wait till you get back and I get to hear all about it, although I will top listening if you mention any friends you have made..and Cachelle feels the same.

Helen text me the other day asking if you had a boyfriend, I explained about the bus he was on and I think she was okay with that?! Is there any potential on your bus?

Also the true blood added me today, I was happy. I wonder if your neighbor has managed to get locks of her hair etc yet?

Anyway..this is all rather boring im sure, cant wait till you get home, can you make it go faster please. Im gaining some serious weigh sat in the office all day and I fear you are going to have that post-trek figure that makes me jealous, and "that is not nice".

much love as ever you heaven slice.
    Beth x
