Wembley Wave Goodbye to Incredible India

This BLOG completed by Field Base staff member, Pete from Logistics.

The expedition of Wembley students from 3rd July - 23rd July 2010 in India has all but completed. Field base staff in Jayapura hosted their stay during the final few days, in dormitory style accomodation, and the Wembley group have also enjoyed outings to the local main city of Mysore, population circa 3 million.

Earlier this morning we waved goodbye to them as they boarded their bus for the start of their long homeward journey.

The two teachers Alan McDougal and Sarah Evans have had a fantastic time along with their venturing students Bright, Adam, Khaled, Punit, Martine, Daniella, Nairuti, Jinali, Arti and Chloe. They were also ably supported by two project managers, Julia Mitchell and Caroline Stephens. Thanks to all their efforts and hard work, a set of toilets have been built at the village location of Ealamanna. They have fought to battle against lots of rain, to help achieve a small yet significant project to the community, and after reflection, should be highly pleased with all their efforts. They also enjoyed trekking in remote and luxuriant countryside. There was a wonderful slideshow of their experiences last night, and a set of presentations to the group of commemorative Raleigh T-shirts.

The team have mixed feelings about leaving India, yet take fond memories with them of their time here. I have just sorted through several hundred photos (courtesy of Alan McDougall) to whittle them down to a blogtastic TEN !!!

I am afraid to report that I have failed miserably in my attempt to scythe through these captured images with my rusty blunt machete, as there are simply just too many photo opportunities in this mad, crazy and delightful part of the world. Consequently there are TWENTY photos uploaded here, DOUBLE the target. There were many others equally enlightening.

Enjoy this brief slideshow of the fun, sights, and scenery that Wembley have experienced:

including probably the highlight of the whole trip, Field Base Pete's Salsa Extravaganza !!

  3. Hi Gemma! Just wanted to give you a little football update...Liverpool signed Joe Cole for free :) And Gerrard is staying. Not sure what's happening with Torres at the moment..he was pictured celebrating the world cup win with a Liverpool scarf around his neck, but apparently he's had a few probs with the club in the past and now Man City and Chelsea are allegedly going to battle it out for him...£60 or £70 mil the papers are saying..
Didn't do too great in our pre-season games but they're only pre season and Hodgson sent out all the young-uns.
Hope you're having a fab time. Take care. Yvette xxxx
