The Loop consisting of Polly B, Polly C, Christina, Del & Carolyn swooped into Hagarnahalli for an overnight visit to Charlie Two earlier this week.
Hagarahalli is a medium sized village with around 180 families. Charlie Two are living right in the heart of the community, sleeping in the primary school and working side by side with the villagers to build eco sanitation units for twenty four families (twelve to be completed this phase, twelve next phase).
The Loop being given a tour of the village by Erdinch & Katya |
Charlie Two's day house |
The group work hard days, in groups of three teaming up with the local masons who've taught them how to brick lay, roof and plaster the units. Despite the language barrier there's great banter and laughs between them all.
The second part of Charlie Two's work in Hagaranahalli is to educate the villagers about the importance of health and hygiene. The group have regular lesson slots in the three schools in the village. It's been a great experience for the Venturers to get to know the local children and ensure that they're work here is sustained after Raleigh leaves.
The hospitality of the community in Hagarahalli has been unbelivable. The group are invited in for chai most evenings into family houses all across the village.
"They dressed us up in sari's and they were all so excited rushing around to get each of the us an outfit. We then walked round the village to celebrate and drink chai in all the houses. It was such an amazing day, like Christmas Day! Everyone was so excited about it and that we were involved in it. It was really unusal for them to have us their to celebrate it with them."
The group are having a opening ceremony woth the village on Monday to celebrate opening the twelve toilets. We're looking forward to hearing the stories.

ReplyDeleteHey hun,
I hope all is well with you and the digging is not too exhausting. I hope your trendy man made tent is holding up throughout the weather, they look rather cozy I must say! I hope you have been doing your country proud and winning the sporting events against the villagers! I thought my half 8 starts were bad, I don’t envy that (I could make a few jokes on your enthusiasm for being woken early, but I’ll refrain!). Credit to you dear!
I am well here and working away as I ever do, no luck on the job front though. I’ve posted another letter for you. Si’s bad luck has unfortunately continued in that his mini has been robbed, he is gutted. It’s getting icy cold here so enjoy that warmth while you can dear, you’ll be in for a nice cold shock on your return! I hope the oven is holding up, Im very impressed! I hope you bring back some tasty recipes and you’ve tried more tasty food.
Going on tour over the next few weekends so I’ll have more to report on soon, but surely not as much as you dear.
I miss you loads (and loads) and I hope to hear from you soon. Stay well, be strong when it gets tough and be safe, as I know you always are. I know you can do anything!
Thinking of you always and love you lots,
Gaz xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ReplyDeleteEllo Nelle,
Just a quick note to thank you for your message. This will be a short one because I need to get some shut-eye soon.
I wanted to let you know that Kings College has been voted the best University 2010 by the Sunday Times (or is it Mail??!) Newspaper. Apparently they beat Oxford! :O
If there was ever a time for you to be big-headed, this is it. I am sure it will come in handy when you balance the bags of cement. :P ;)
Knowing my timing, you are probably finished with that phase! LOL
Do try and gimme a call when you can. In the meantime, take care and have fun.
It's just as well I am going to bed now. It's not easy typing when you have a cat hanging from your arm, both her arms are clinging on for dear life, or ham! :P
I love and miss you sooo much and I am counting the days until you return.
Lots and Lots of Love, Hugs and Paw-Prints [She made me do it! :O]
Mums and Brat~Bag :P

ReplyDeletehi georgey,
i wasn't sure which group you were in now until i saw the pictures haha no face was needed, the purple shorts were a dead give away. i'm home for thanksgiving now and missing you like crazy. jess comes home tomorrow (thank god) and i've been hanging out with sam, judd, and connor the past few nights. sam has been helping me come up with recipes for thanksgiving dinner (adorable). i had to go thanksgiving dinner grocery shopping which was interesting. aside from not being in uhh the clearest state of mind haha i had no idea how to buy a turkey. i got it all though and hopefully it will be delicious. i'm kind of in a weird place right now trying to figure out what to do with myself next year and i wish i could talk to you haha you always know how to help. looks like you're doing good things out there and dare i say getting even tanner. i could not be more jealous. you're going to come home an d wonder why there's a pale ghost wearing your best friend's clothes but i promise it's me haha. hope to hear from you soon and hope you're safe and well.
all my love,
your mama bear
