Luke & Polly C waiting for the Venturers (photo by Del Roberts) |
Although sleepy from the overnight flight, the group were full of excitement as they met eachother for the first time. Everyone got through bag collection and customs without a hitch and by 6am we set off on our four hour coach journey to Fieldbase.
For many of the Venturers this is their first visit to India, so they looked out in wonder at the scenes outside the window. India never fails to intrigue it's visitors with the sensory overload of women riding motorbikes in brightly coloured silk saris, the cacophony of horn beeping rickshaws, cows who have the right of way on the road and the delicious smell of spices that permeate the air.
By mid morning the group had arrived at Fieldbase where waiting to greet them with welcoming smiles were the Raleigh permanent staff, Vounteer Managers and the Host Country Venturers, who'd arrived at Fieldbase yesterday.
A traditional Hindu welcome was given by Manglamare, who lives on Fieldbase site with her husband Chakrapha, Fieldbase Security Man and their children. |
The Venturers were then officially welcomed to the Raleigh India 10k Expedition by Mark, Raleigh India Country Director and Anna, Country Program Manager.
The Venturers have now been split off into their intial Alpha groups which they'll be in throughout Induction:

Hey Eurd,
Just sent you a message but that was before i saw the photo pages.
You were right it is Ellen Ripley, lol. Where is your Yellow fork lift thingy?
Hotel 4??? Is that to make you forget that during the trek you will be living on the floor? i can't imagine that there will be much room service, lol.
Hope that all your new mates are ok, looking at them in the photos there doesn't seem any Norman Bates types, but remember your alien training Ellen, watch out for face huggers, lol.

ReplyDeleteHey David
Love that little red dot you got upon arrival!!! It was great to see a couple of pictures of you on the website. Everyone was looking at them and wondering how you are doing. Hope all is well and your having a great time. We look forward to more updates. Let us know if you need more Nutella!

Hello dear daughter
ReplyDeletePoppy says your 25k trek makes her extra long walk today seem too short!! Ginger says she's cross with Poppy for eating her food twice yesterday.....
I re-directed Uncle David's card on Monday morning, and we'd both like to know how long it takes using snail mail to arrive.
We've had to resort to central heating and thermals (it was 10C today), I'm not sure you can imagine being that cold. Plus its warming casserole for supper tonight!
Max will be back from Bournemouth on Saturday for another shoot. Pippa had her hair done on Tuesday and isn't sure she likes it. Guy is looking forward to hearing the demo the band made on Sunday.
Sure that your news is much more exciting!!
Lots of love from us all. Ginger sends a loud purr, and Poppy a whine!!!

ReplyDeleteHey Isabelle,
ReplyDeleteZeker even wennen, nu jullie net zijn aangekomen?
