The Fieldbase team are Preparing for Phase One

GUEST BLOG BY POLLY BALDWIN (PHOTOGRAHER)

While the volunteer managers have been away from Fieldbase on their project planning visits I have discovered there is much more to the Fieldbase roles than being in the office. All the team are hard at work preparing for the ventures arrival on Monday.

Anna Tate and Mark Ashby are making sure everything is in place for Phase One.

Del Roberts DPM is busy putting the planning together for the venturer induction, not an easy task.

Luke Jones our Phase One Fieldbase Medic has been out and about in Mysore buying all the last minute essentials for the medical kits and working hard in the office to catalogue everything, checking and double checking we have all the correct equipment medication and documentation for the induction week. The Fieldbase Medic role is an essential part of Raleigh safety, he is always on the end of the mobile phone or radio for those Project Managers and Medics in the field to consult with on any medical questions or for advice. It is a 24 hour a day job that will be rotated between Medics every three weeks, we are really lucky to have five great Medics on this expedition to help keep us all safe and well.

I’ve been out and about in Mysore with the Logistics team, I had no idea until this week exactly how varied jobs are. Responsible for supplying the Project teams with everything they need to run both their camps and the projects from food to building materials and all within the Raleigh project budget. Helping them around town this week has been hard work but great fun while they visited suppliers bartering for the best price and quality food and materials they can buy. It’s a challenging job and John and Doug put a great deal of time and effort in to make sure the Project Managers are fully equipted. They are the unsung heroes of the expedition who have only been in India two weeks but are learning very quickly how to do business here in India.

Susan Pollock is a Project Manager who during phase one will be helping the logistic team out at Fieldbase. This week's mission has been to stock all the equipment and food in the Fieldbase shop with all those little essentials and some luxuries for the Venturers

Polly and Polly are preparing their Venturer induction presentation and Phase One workshops and tasks for the different project groups, while still covering events as they occur and putting slideshows together to welcome home the Project Managers from their site vists.

Polly C & Polly B - "Comms, we've got it covered!"

Today is the last day of preparation, soon some of the Fieldbase team are off to Bangalore to collect the Venturers whilst the others will stay here to prepare the welcome with the rest of the management team. We can't wait to meet them all and get the Raliegh India 10k expedition properly going.

Thanks to Kate Studley for the email, glad you are having fun - it all sounds amazing and very different to not-so-sunny Wallasey. We really envy you seeing the temples but the rats, not so much! Well done with the chicken - it sounds a bit too visceral for comfort (especially for the chicken's comfort). Hope the first assignments go well,we look forward to reading updates. Let us know if you need anything Kate, will write soon. lots of love from all.

  2. Hi Lynne
Will try, again, to send our best wishes to you and the Raleigh volunteers you will be trekking with over the next few weeks.
Your group photographs give the distinct impression the whole group are enjoying the experience of being in India and doing the good work that Raleigh does.Mum and I are proud of what you do,not only for Raleigh but for all the other things you find the time to do.
Look after yourself and your "charges".India is a bit different form Dartmoor, the Brecons or the Cairngorms but the skills are the same!!!.
    Love Mum & Dad.
