A day in the life of logistics

Working closely together, the logistics team of three help to ensure that everyone gets nutritious food and clean drinking water, reliable tents and associated paraphernalia.

Logistics is carefully managed under the watchful eyes of Jenny the logistics manager and all-round superstar.

Managing  logistics can be a very messy job
Robin and Pete provide support as logistics coordinators. Robin mainly handles the food side of things and I (Pete) negotiate with the hardware side of things. It is both a fun, challenging and often busy role.
Robin's taste might be a bit different to the venturers!

We also helped out with the induction and trek training for venturers and volunteer managers, ensuring that the groups had the appropriate kit such as jerry cans, tents, working poles, pegs, gas stoves, Trangia stoves, fuel,  machetes, matches, three bowl cleaning system, bleach, washing liquid, pots, pan scourers, tarpaulins, rope, life jackets, etc. all in all, quite a lot of stuff really!

Pete - most defintely not in the logs store

Logistics helped out with the swim testing, well, provided a marker for them to swim around!

A hard day in the office

One of the biggest jobs in logistics is the ordering and sorting of food for each group on each phase. This is a combination of suggesting menus, various calculations on calorie counts, nutrition and creating tantalising meals, (not just porridge or rice every time). This in itself is a mid boggling challenge of Krypton Factor proportions. Robin has taken the lead on this task and pretty much wowed the groups with his juggling of flavours. Due to these heroic efforts, one word not being used to describe the culinary delights created by the assorted chefs out on their phases is the word bland. This in its own small way is close to a miracle!

The most popular biscuit in the world is called Parle-G, a favourite with venturers and project managers alike. This is, unfortunately, a favourite of a local cat too (not a tiger though ... phew), who manages to do mission impossible style trips to the logs store, deep in the night, making giant leaps from banana leaf roofs, to clamber through the narrowest of gaps to go foraging. Thanks to these acrobatics, logs now have to order chicken wire in order to plug the gaps at the top of the logs building to end these nocturnal feline excursions.

Bare shelves signal that most phases are now underway

The boxing ring ...
Wellies, Trangia stoves, jerry cans ...  plus assorted items

The logs team are a vital part of the overall success of all projects. Under budget restrictions, they endeavour to provide quality food and equipment at an appropriate price.

Anita helping us 'Go wild in the aisles' on a triple trolley dash!!!

  Shouldn't that read 'FUEL' n 'EMPTY' ???
This Herculean effort is all for the love of our venturers and we'll be catching up with the venturers of 10E very soon!
