Fieldbase and Charlie 1 have joined forces to create a super-communication-apparatus, allowing us to get some live and direct reporting from Gandenahalli - the village which will soon benefit from 15 more eco-sanitation toilets. Following machine parts have been used to make this engineering marvel reality: Guest blogger Daniel Leigh, a 2012 notebook for Indian pupils, a 2004 mobile phone, a 1993 landline telephone in beige, a 2008 recording device, and I. The photos are from day 1 of the Phase, taken by PM Matt; Charlie 1 looks very professional already, riiight!?!?

Namaskaara from Gandenahalli! We are now over half way through our third and final Phase, and so far times have been good. Our masonry skills have improved beyond recognition with packing cement and plastering being our particular forte, and as a result 9 of the 15 toilets are standing – they just need some plastering and pipe work done.
And this is the story of how their masonry skills improved beyond recognition (remember, these are photos from day 1) |
We work hard, then we play hard. Our evening entertainment has become a thriving business with intense games of Pictionary and even football with the locals. A game of bizarre passion and technique, we saw England emerge at 4:0 victors. James’ stunning hattrick and Abi’s brutal defending deserve a special mention.

Unfortunately the dreaded spectre of D&V descended on the camp taking no prisoners. Only Shaq, Dan, Vishnu, and Yash with their stomachs of steel have fought off the cursed demon. Despite this we’re all having a superb time and looking forward to the coming days.

ReplyDeleteI hope all is going well. You look like you're having fun (although you all look a bit hot and sweaty!). You're also going to have the skills to build a proper camp at the bottom of Ma and Pas garden complete with basher and eco sanitation...who says you need to live in a house? I hope the T-shirt tan lines aren't too bad and you're all recovered from the D&V outbreak (nasty!). Can't believe you're back in a few weeks. Looking forward to seeing you soon and apologies that the parents house will be a bit chaotic when you get home.
love Liz x
