After a superb extended changeover, the groups left bright and early yesterday for their third and final phases. Seriously, where’s the time going?!
By 5am field base was a hive of activity with last minute packing, gobbling breakfast and making the place spick and span. You could feel the excitement in the air as everyone said their temporary goodbyes and loaded their rucksacks on to the coaches.
Tango 5 and Tango 6 were the first groups to leave at 6am, and by 8am field base was deserted… think I just saw a ball of tumbleweed blow past the office…
As well as the venturers returning to Fieldbase for changeover, we were also treated to a visit by Raleigh’s Head of Operations, Tony Willetts. Tony visits each country every year to touch base with operations on the ground, and he gave a good speech to the venturers about the importance of Raleigh India to Raleigh overall, and thanked venturers for all their hard work.

I have been growing a moustache for 'Movember' which is an international mens health charity where you get a 30 day tache for sponsorship. I look like Super Mario and your uncle Mick looks like Luigi. Went for a Curry last night and thought of you. I don't suppose you will ever be able to do that again without remembering your experiences in India.

ReplyDeleteHoi lieverd, We zijn natuurlijk heel erg benieuwd hoe de trekking is! Misschien beklimmen jullie nu wel een fantastische bergtop!. We hopen op het zien van foto's (gelukkig kon je een nieuwe camera kopen). Vandaag waren Jan en Tineke hier, erg gezellig. Tineke zei dat Marlies het erg leuk zal vinden als jij naar Groningen komt. Dit weekend weer een aantal kratten hout verkocht (conclusie: het wordt kouder, meer regen en meer wind!). Het is heel raar om Sinterklaas te gaan vieren terwijl jij daar aan je laatste fase van deze reis bezig bent, maar.............. 4 december Eric en 5 december Hans, Marion en Martijn. Ik heb een brief gestuurd, maar misschien krijg je die pas als je terugkomt in fieldcamp. We verheugen ons erop om je weer te horen! We zijn trots op alles wat je India al gedaan hebt en aan het doen bent. De Albert Heyn neemt steeds langer omdat veel mensen willen weten waar je bent, wat je doet, wanneer je terugkomt, etc! ReplyDeleteHi Lucy! It was so great to talk with you during your change-over. I can't believe you have already started the last phase of your trip. I know you are going to have a blast on your trek. There will be difficult days, but it will all be worth it in the end! Last Thursday was Thanksgiving--we had a great feast at Dad's house on Wednesday night and then Stu and I headed to Richmond for Thanksgiving with his family. We went to Charlottesville for the basketball game and the football game. While we were there, I ran into Stuart's cousin, Tiernan, who goes to Dalhousie--she is SO excited that you will be there in January. When you come back, I'll put you two in touch. When we returned to DC, Stu and I set up our Christmas tree and pulled out all of the other decorations. The house looks like a winter wonderland! I forgot how many Christmas items I have collected. This weekend, Stuart and I are going to NYC with his family to celebrate Tom's birthday--it will be loads of fun :) We will be seeing a play and looking at the Christmas decorations. We can't wait to celebrate Christmas with you--Miss you tons. xoxo Mary

Dat ziet er allemaal indrukwekkend uit. Wel ellendig van die regen de eerste dagen. Gelukkig ben jij als Nederlandse dat weer gewend, scheelt weer. Wat gaat de tijd snel. Over bijna drie weken ben je weer thuis. Ik kijk daar naar uit! Geniet nog maar even van alles dat je daar mee maakt.
