Raleigh India Fun Run

Yesterday morning Venturers and PMs took the choice to rise early on their lie in to take part in the Raligh India 10K Fun Run.

They had a choice of a 5K or a 10K route on a course taking them through local village Jayapura and across Paddy Fields, all past bemused locals!

The 10k event was won by Robbie for the boys and Isabelle for the girls. In the 5K Liz and Tessa came joint first.

Trek Leader PM Lynne - crossing her six hundred and tenth kilometer - what a legend!

All participants got round in impresive times with everyone completing the 10K within 75mins - fitness levels have certainly improved over 10 weeks of trekking, cycling, digging and manual labour!

Hola Karla I´v had trouble getting in touch with you, you know I´m not so good with computers but here with your granddad we tried together. Saw your lovely pictures. Your rabbits are fine and Gustavo is constantly showing by.

Raleigh India

Raleigh is a youth and education charity with 26 years experience in providing adventurous and challenging expeditions for people from all backgrounds, nationalities and ages, especially young people.

Raleigh India launched in February 2008. In just two years its expeditions and volunteer projects have grown beyond all expectation. So has our understanding of the importance of our presence here.

India witnesses a huge disparity between the urbanised wealthy and the rural poor. Although government initiatives are targeting this and attempting to redress the balance; changing an embedded culture and reversing the tide in a sub-continent as huge as India is not a fast process.

Through concentrated and sustained efforts our project groups have begun to make a tangible difference in the areas Raleigh India has focused. By partnering with both local grass roots NGOs, government agencies such as the Ministry for Environment and Forests and international NGOs like the World Wide Fund for Nature, Raleigh has been able to access and address some core issues here in India.
