Over to Patrick Scott for an update on Foxtrot 1’s progress!
"And now, ladies, gentlemen and unreasonably devoted parents,
it’s the blog you’ve all been waiting for – the Foxtrot 1 update! What with us
being the best Raleigh group ever, there’s been a lot going on in Biddarahalli
this week.
We’ve already completed our work on 6 of the toilets and the other 7
are into their final stages! As scrubs wearing enthusiast, Lars, quipped, the
sense of satisfaction gained by completing one is like a swarm of butterflies
floating around in a field; though that’s not something you can say about the
state of our long drop.
Elsewhere, we’ve had a lot of chai tea, highly excitable
schoolchildren and annoying dogs, but the hero of Foxtrot 1 isn’t even human.
Munga, our adorable monkey mascot, has acquired quite a depressing backstory
since his arrival last week. It’s a harrowing tale involving homelessness and
unfortunate removals of body parts, none of which a soft toy should go through.
But, since coming to India, he’s been hard working, inspired his own limerick
and always has a smile on his face: largely because it’s sewn on!
Next week we’ll be taking a well-earned day off to celebrate
Independence Day – not sure what to expect, but we’re told there’ll be a lot of
dancing and a chance for some teaching! Plus, we’ll definitely head down to the
amazing reservoir for some more dips/futile attempts at washing (see that
foxtrots 2 and 3? We have a LAKE!!) Until then, stay on the blog or more of our
shenanigans and remember – Foxtrot 1 is Foxtrot FUN! (Blame Harriet for making
that up)."
Next time on the Raleigh India 12I blog, an update from Laura in Foxtrot 2!
hi Foxtrot fun, builders, teachers and adventurers all roled into the best Raleigh group ever!! keep up the good work, keep blogging and look after Munga sounds like the poor guy is having a hard time.

Big bisous and love from mams and paps!

ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you are working and keeping yourself busy! I am taking penny to get her microchip tomorrow ( thought you wouldn't appreciate taking her! Anyway this will definitely ruin my relationship with her and so that is only good for you!) Anyway since mum is going away on holiday I'm not looking forward to being on my own, and not having your mess to clean up :( missing you lots and lots! Stay safe :)
Love Annabel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
To Jakhya,
ReplyDeleteAll sound's good on the Foxtrot One camp. Another two weeks or so, and you'll be returning to fieldbase! Woohoo!!
We're hoping you're taking good care of yourself. Chai tea? Bet you're loving that! Hope you're still enjoying the food there and not too bored of the vegtarian diet.
And we know you're missing Amelia but there's no need to kidnap the village toddler! Actually she misses you too. Last weekend we were in Greenford. There Amelia saw one of your photos, then pointed to go upstairs to find you. Bless! She misses her 'Kala Moni'!
Eid Mubarak to you! We celebrate this Sunday. Will be thinking of you lots whilst chomping on the roast chicken. He he!
Love you lots.
Best wishes from,
the Rahman&Zamans XxX

To Patrick Scott;
ReplyDeleteI love that you wrote the update! I always love it when you write things, it's like you're a completely different person when you're in writing mode. :D
It was really great to have the update from you. and it makes me very happy to know there is a soft toy involved, as it is always necessary to have one. he sounds so CUTE. :P nice to see there's some harmless (I assume) rivalry between the 3 groups too. Also, excitable schoolchildren, they must be adorable!
I miss you loads, Breaking Bad's not the same without you, but it is brilliant! I can't wait for you to see it. I still haven't seen The Dark Knight Rises either, which I know is silly, for me. :P
Hope you continue to have an incredible time, and everything continues to go well, I'm assuming you haven't been ill at all so far?
wizard.
I love you, Nedd (: <3<3xoxox

ReplyDeleteNice to see you contemplating working....did you actually do anything?......We're in Laandon atm. Lars when you said you had cleared out most of your things from the flat......you were lying!
Anyway Emma will be delighted with the amount of rubbish we have deposited in her flat.
Now it's Kirsten's turn today. We plan to move her stuff tonite to avoid congestion charges. Dad's getting so good at The Knowledge he'll soon be able to moonlight as a taxi driver!
We went to the Indian train man in Wembley. He said it's all sorted you just need to locate the train at the station....you have the numbers.......then look on the side of the train for your seat allocation by name. Or give him a call. You're accomodation is also sorted. I'll make sure I've emailed all the relevant details by the time you get to Bangalore.
Can't wait to hear all your stories when you get back

ReplyDeleteGlad to see you contemplating work at least......did you get anything done?
We're in Laandun atm and Lars, when you said you'd cleared out most of your stuff from the flat.....you were lying!. Anyway, I'm sure Emma will be delighted with the rubbish we've deposited in her flat.....could be the end of a beautiful friendship :P....we've got you're bike over as well although cycling in the city seems suicidal!
We went to Wembly today, looked round the stadium which Theis really enjoyed and went to see the Indian train man. All the trains are booked.... You need to indentify your train from the number you've been given for each journey when you get to the station and your seat allocation will be posted on the side of the train.. You just need to look for your name. Or you can give him a call.
Hope you are continuing to enjoy yourself..... Can't wait to hear all your news, Take care

Hi Wes
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you earlier today, my morning text was very unexpected! Hope you have regrouped/repacked and are ready for heading out tomorrow. In the spirit of providing you with a more 'quality' message here is the news from home ...
First up, Richard and Lisa are officially engaged, they came round yesterday after seeing Gran to show off the ring and announce their intention to join up Mr & Mrs style! So a gathering of the Lysons clan is likely to coincide with all the September birthdays.
A mention of which, as its Jon's 21st next month, he will be celebrating with a trip to Amsterdam with Jamie (back from Oz) and all being well will be back in the country to toast a glass or two with family! Apparently Gran is making a trifle for the occasion - special request we understand!
I text Tony before and he is delighted that his t-shirt has put him on the world map!! He hasn't had anyone book sessions from India :)
I think Beth might have said to you that Ben will be in the country on 3rd Sept, back home on 5th so lots of catching up to do then. Katie has a new job too and starts tomorrow which is great news.
Nick is considering all things fitness as running is not proving the best option so may need to rethink the Salford 10k - your creativity here would be welcomed.
Sam heads out for Uganda next Wed so not sure whether you can get a txt to him before you leave camp? The quiz he organised went really well and boosted funds. Our team made a respectful score!
Think that may be all for now ... hope this rates as 'news'. The blog posts have been fabulous to read and love the pics too - we are waiting to view your more extensive collection!
So hope you are enjoying re-connecting with everyone now Foxtrot 1,2 & 3 are back together - have an awesome adventure for the next week and we will assemble the small welcoming committee of Nick & I to greet you at Manchester. We shall ensure that supplies of favourite foods will be in the fridge!!
Signing off with lots of love
Mum xxx
Sorry that last one was duplicated.....ipad/ google playing up & I wasn't sure the first had been sent. Anyway... Makes you look really important to get two posts. Pity they're almost identical!
ReplyDeleteTo Jakhya,
ReplyDeleteJust writing to say Eid Mubarak. Abba and I went to Paddington’s yesterday; while Afa went to Rochester. We met Afa, Dulu Bhai and Amelia last week and you’d be pleased to know that they’re all doing very well. Amelia is growing very nicely and better able to communicate with people. We were mainly fixed to the TV as the nation was swept with Olympics fever (Great Britain did brilliantly).
I’ve been reading your blogs. Very impressive work, you’re doing a lot of good in the community and you should be proud of yourself. The picture with you and the baby is brilliant!!
We’ve got your postcard and glad to hear your doing well. Please keep up the good work. We’re all very proud of you and wish you the best of luck. Love you loads!!
From the Rahman and Zaman families
Hi David,( Foxtrot 2) great to hear your voice. Simeon had fun falling off your board yesterday !! However now realise so much better with the mast foot forward in the slot. Mum and I definately coming to the airport. Enjoy your last week.
