A Word from our Host Country Venturers

Hi friends,
We are from Kerala and there are six of us here at Raleigh India: Arya, Abdul Kareem, Qathab, Sathyajith, Shiju and Srikanth. This is our first time here and we are very excited and pleased to be able to meet a group of Europeans. Their friendship, good nature and open minds have made us an active part of the group. This camp is helping us to develop our language skills and also to get an idea of their culture and life style. They are very good at sharing their thoughts and feelings with us. It is not a camp so much as a life full of adventure!

Good to see a photo of you smiling! We leave for Hong Kong tommorow night, if you get the chance to send a letter will have to be to new zealand from now, Christine and Peter came yesterday (aunt and uncle) and they wish you all the best for your trek, so do we! lol am missing you but we'll be together again soon! leg is still bloody agony! Raleigh India

Raleigh is a youth and education charity with 26 years experience in providing adventurous and challenging expeditions for people from all backgrounds, nationalities and ages, especially young people.

Raleigh India launched in February 2008. In just two years its expeditions and volunteer projects have grown beyond all expectation. So has our understanding of the importance of our presence here.

India witnesses a huge disparity between the urbanised wealthy and the rural poor. Although government initiatives are targeting this and attempting to redress the balance; changing an embedded culture and reversing the tide in a sub-continent as huge as India is not a fast process.

Through concentrated and sustained efforts our project groups have begun to make a tangible difference in the areas Raleigh India has focused. By partnering with both local grass roots NGOs, government agencies such as the Ministry for Environment and Forests and international NGOs like the World Wide Fund for Nature, Raleigh has been able to access and address some core issues here in India.
