Alpha Group Updates

Alpha One

The group have been working hard on the Community Centre and have now almost completed building the walls. There is a fashion show planned for this evening, so they will be preparing their costumes today. Daily cooking lessons and teaching English in the local school continues.

Alpha Two

They were up early again this morning for their wake-up swim before heading out to the worksites. Only two water-harvesting tanks are left to build now, so they will continue with construction today and have plans to swim again this evening and eat lots of cake from the local bakery as a treat.

Alpha Three

Despite rain and mud yesterday, the team have finished all the walls on the anti-poaching camp building and, weather permitting, will begin with the roof and digging the elephant-proof trench today around the camp, with the help of a large JCB!

Alpha Four

Our Welling School group were suffering from the rain last night but said they were all in great spirits, having completed the first day of their Adventure Challenge. They had cycled an impressive 30 kilometres before setting up their overnight camp. It was an early start for them this morning, as they left for a day of trekking!

We have seen some more photos - of the opening ceremony, everyone looks happy. Have also seen that you all cycled 30 kilometres before setting up camp for the night - Go Hannah! I expect you did not need much rocking to sleep that night - but then read that you had to put up with lots of rain, hope nothing too soggy! Enjoy the last few days of your adventure - looking forward to seeing you next week.

  6. Hi Vicki
Sorry not to have sent any messages for ages. The blog says you should have had a JCB in to dig a trench - shame you didn't have that for the foundations! Hope there hasn't been too much rain - and that you are OK. Temp here today 29 degrees when I got in your car tonight - have every sympathy for you having to work hard in 34! Dad is out baling till all hours, as is Kate. Kate bought a new tent to go to Ireland - a 10MAN TENT!! It's enormouse - we laid it out on the lawn - she could have a family living in the West Wing of it and never know they were there!! She is going to take it back!! A 6man size will be plenty!! How is your accommodation - are you managing to keep well? Will ring Rob tonight and see if he can come round this weekend. Will write again tomorrow. Thinking of you all the time. Went roller balding at Ferry Meadows last night with my old work mates from Wyton - they all send love and Richard has been watching the website too.Love from all family and friends
    Lots of love xxxx

  8. Hi Vicki
Hope you got the message I left on here last night. Hot here again - thankfully it's a lovely day at the weekend instead of just during the week! Spoke to Rob earlier - hopes you are OK and thinking of you. He is working nights so won't be able to come round to see web so brought him up-to-date on what's happening! Dad out again baling - sends love and hopes you aren't having to work so hard - was glad to hear about the JCB! Nicky and Richard (next door) getting married today. Kate home this weekend - she has a streaming cold, again. Hope you and all your friends are all keeping well. Will see Kelvin tomorrow - will keep him updated.
Hope you not been washed way by the monsoons. Lucys internet is down so can't send you message - but sends love and says she hopes you are OK
    Lots of love from everyone

  9. message for Mark Barrie - Alpha 1

    Hi Mark,

Alpha 1 seems to be working hard to finish the Community Centre; what a great achievement!
I knew all that rugby training would come in handy one day!

The weather in the UK has, at last, warmed up at 23 degrees in Cheshire! Guess not as hot as India, but hot enough to make me want to sleep during the day and keep me awake at night!

The 'Insight Course' is from 23rd-26th September 2008; so plenty of time for you to explore India after the 11th Aug. I have contacted the Uni to book you on the course. Keep us posted as to what you want to do because we will have to check your insurance and you will have to change your flight back to the UK.
I do hope that you do travel, you might not get this opportunity again.

Home news; Rachael continues to work in the Co-Op, reluctantly. Andrew continues to try and drive at every available minute. Your Dad and I are off to Tatton Flower Show tomorrow.
Dad and I plan to stay in the Joneses house in the Lakes for a week when Andrew is in Spain.

Keep digging and building. We miss you but are so happy that you have used your summer so effectively.

All our love, Mum, Dad, Rachael, Andrew xxxx
PS Grandma and Grandpa and Aunty K have asked me to send you their love. Mum x

    Exeter is missing you!
It's suprisingly sunny here but I'm sure India will be putting our good weather to shame.

  16. Hi Rosie,
It has taken me ages to work out how to use this technology! I have been writing several messages but I think they have just gone into thin air instead of you. We've seen pics of you washing up(!) and heard about your prowess at volleyball. We are all well and Will is visiting all the castles of Aberdeenshir in his spare time while Rach thinks isn't her cup of tea- no job yet. Tons of love from us all Mumxxx will write again- if I've managed to do this right....
